Another Mike Allen Scoop

We loved when Mike Allen, now of Politico.com, covered the state capitol in Hartford for the New York Times; he was enthusiastic and unrelenting. Not surprising that he’s the reporter who broke the “Washington Post Sells Access Dinners at the Publisher’s House” story.

Layoffs at CPTV

Support CPTV! Learn how YOU can help.

We don’t know much but we’re told that several employees of CPTV have been laid off. This follows a couple of layoffs yesterday at WNPR -both are subsidiaries of Connecticut Public Broadcasting Network.

More “Better” at WFSB

Meredith Corporation, which owns WFSB, produces a syndicated lifestyle show “Better” at KPTV in Portland, Oregon. Meredith is moving production operations for its nationally synidcated “Better” to WFSB in Rocky Hill because of the Connecticut station’s proximity to Meredith’s video production studio in New York.

We’re told that this move will in no way replace the “Better Connecticut” program that airs live at 10 am and is co-hosted by Scot Haney and Kara Sundlun; in fact, the local show may get an updated set as a result. The move is expected to bring with it  10-13 new jobs.

More From Columbus

From News Blues:

“Sources in Columbus, OH, report the ‘mind-altering substance,’ which police say contributed to 18-year-old Bryan Barbin voluntarily stabbing himself in the chest six times, was LSD. Barbin was the son of former Columbus news director Lyn Tolan.”

Lyn was news director at WFSB from 2002-2005.
